What
As a series of Small Single Purpose Illinois Not For Profit Corporations, organized and operated for the charitable and educational purpose of chartering and supporting Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Units, including Cub Scout Packs, Scouts BSA Troops, Venturing Crews, and Sea Scout Ships. All business, meetings, and relationships shall be conducted in conformance with the Scout Oath and Scout Law, and in the Scouting Spirit of the Boy Scouts of America.
Each Corporation (Not for Profit Chartering Organization) may charter one or more Scouting Units based on a balance of support, liability risk assessment, and annual revenue all in an effort to keep the cost of administration to a minimum.
Who
Chartered Org is founded by Scouters in the interest of keeping Scouts in the Scouting program. The Board of Directors of each Corporation will be made up of seasoned, passionate members of the adult volunteer scouting community as well as informed community citizens who believe in the Scouting Program.
As seasoned Scouters, the Board will be a resource of guidance and advice to help Scouting Units be more successful and less isolated.
Chartered Org members will consist of the Unit Leaders (Cubmasters, Scoutmasters, Crew Advisors & Skippers) and Committee Chairs who will be a voice within the Corporation and help guide the operation.
How
Working in conjunction with other Scouters in other parts of the country, and with guidance and support from Council, Chartered Org has gathered resource to stand up a Chartering Organization within a few day. With a firm set of bylaws, once established, the Corporation can file as a 501c3 and apply for State Tax Exempt status.
A relationship has been created to create insurance policies that cover the Corporation and the Board of Directors, as well as the financial accounts of the Corporation and chartered units from fraud and theft. Property insurance policies are available for Trailers and their contents, as well as other unit assets.
Rates have been negotiated to keep costs as low as possible .
Where
Chartered Org is willing to work with Scouting Units to establish a Corporation for their community. With local investment of volunteers, these Local Not for Profits will be a continuing part of their community.
Effort will be made to maintain healthy, productive relationships with previous Chartering Organizations where possible. Many of our scouting units have been chartered with these organizations for decades, many for more than 50 years. Where we are allowed, we would prefer to continue giving back, hosting pancake breakfasts, and providing service projects.
When that option is not available, assistance in finding a new location will be the focus of the Board.
Why
Because we all passionately believe in the Scouting program, the life long benefits for our Scouts, the positive impact on our communities, and ... we believe in our Scouts. Isn't that why we all wear the uniform?
